R32 Nissan Skyline 4-door

One of the most prolific up-and-comers in the Kiwi drift scene, Sam Groombridge and his monstrously powerful R32 Nissan Skyline is ready to step things up a notch or three in the coming ’08 race season. With plans to compete in every round of the D1NZ Championship, plus as many Dfactor National Drift Series rounds and one off demonstrations as possible, Sam is one of the better-known battlers fighting his way up the ranks. Powered by an angry RB30DET motor, the Skyline is a full competition machine, and makes just over 300 kilowatts at the always-smoking rear wheels, this is thanks to a perfect tune on the Dyno thanks to Mark at Trickytune, using one of the top ECU’s money can buy, the Link LEM G3. The car and its driver have been featured in the following publications and TV shows:

·	New Zealand Performance Car Magazine – Event coverage and full front-of-magazine six-page feature (Issue 134)
·	Performance Car TV – Event Coverage and full feature (voted by viewers in the top ten features of the year)
·	MVP Magazine – Event coverage
·	MVP Cartel (Television) – Event coverage

Sam was very lucky that he picked the run bearing pictured below as soon as it happened and repair cost was minimal with only another oil pump and new set of bearings needed. This happened on a road test just after 5 people had spent all day doing preventative maintainence. Although the bottom end had done about 400,000 km before we fitted it! Good old dirty 30.

Being in this industry for 14 years personally and I have worked with many top engine tuners and car builders alike. Mark has a very broad knowledge of Japanese performance vehicles in particular but also specialises in the engine tuning side.

If you were to listen to Mark he would tell you that he hates cars, but I believe the reason he is so good at what he does is because of his underlying passion he has for his work.

In our field of building drift cars we need 100% reliability because if anything is going to win us a championship, it is that. BUT we also need maximum response with sizable power figures too! So you can imagine Mark’s face each time we roll another car from the DCorp stables through his workshop doors… and each time he completes a tune it never disappoints, only surprises and surpasses our usual expectations.

With these engines constantly beating off the rev limiters to over-heating conditions, they soldier on with very minimal engine failures ever occurring under these brutal conditions.

Never underestimate the importance of a good tune, it will make use of all the thousands of dollars spent on bolt-on parts purchased for your engine. Without this tune you might as well be driving a Lada because you will never see the true potential out of your package and 9 times out of 10, your engine will expire prematurely in a cloud of detonation dust and smoke!

Mark is a Gen X tuner for Gen X car enthusiasts. Take your ride to someone who can at least relate to what you want from your ride!

Our L300 shop hack has just made it back onto the road after having an Evo head installed with Eagle rods, Ross pistons & ARP head stud kit. It is running an FJ20 Nissan/Autobahn88 hybrid turbo bolted to a stainless manifold with 38mm external wastegate and makes 185kw at the wheels. Using a Microtech ecu for engine management and a Volvo intercooler V mounted in front of a large four core radiator. This is now for sale to make way for another project.
